About the event
Help us here at Maine Micro Artisans turn our lemons into lemonade, lemon cake, lemon cookies and other lemony delights. We're pros at turning lemons into lemonade. We constantly think outside the box to overcome small business hurdles as we expand and create more opportunities for our makers and experiences for our communities.
In just two years we have turned lemon after lemon into lemonade. We sunk everything into opening our second location in the Bangor Mall, only to run into serious problems with the building - we have seven active leaks on the sales floor (and one that comes from below!). We've secured a great new space but moving again (we thought we'd be here for years) isn't something we expected to need to do. We've been lucky enough to find partnerships in the Bangor area that allow us to continue our mission there. We love being in Bangor! Our space now supports work from over 200 Maine makers. We're hoping our new building will be ready in just a couple of months. In the meantime, another unexpected opportunity arose.
When The Maine Mall approved our application and presented us the oportunity to lease with them, we knew had to take it. We see small businesses around us closing all the time; it feels like daily we see another announcement about a shop, local eatery or other small business closing. For the longevity of Maine Micro Artisans and our mission we have to jump on opportunities like these. We've pinched, we've stretched, our artisans have contributed and we're so close! We expect to be open on April 20th.
Expanding our spaces means being able to further the causes so important to us. We're not just a retail store - we're an opportunity machine for our makers. Beyond the retail stores we offer classroom spaces, pop up spaces, events to vend at - and this year we're even dipping our toes into the trade show waters. But these maker opportunities are also opportunities for our communities! We offer an abundance of classes to connect you with your creative side, family-friendly festivals in partnership with other local businesses and Maine-focused shopping experiences. We also provide sponsored opportunities for special needs and disabled artisans who might not otherwise be able to afford to participate in programs that allow their creativity to shine.
Lately, our lemons have been piling up. We're pros at making lemonade but we could really use some help to get to the bottom of this pile. We don't take asking for help lightly and pride ourselves in never having asked before but we are on the edge of being able to do some truly great things for all our communities - our artisans and our loyal patrons.
Purchasing a ticket helps us to hire help for the Maine Mall store - we love creating jobs and take being a quality employer very seriously. It also helps us prepare to make the Bangor store move smoothly - and helps us be ready for the next bucket of lemons that life delivers.
Join us May 19th at any of our retail locations - the Maine Mall, 18 South Street in Gorham, or the Bangor Mall - for some lemony delights to say thank you for your support.
